HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT STARTING A HOMEWATCH GROUP?

The primary purpose of a Homewatch Group is to increase personal safety and security by encouraging a sense of community amongst neighbours.

The way you do this is up to you… even just knowing that a Homewatch Scheme exists can give neighbours a greater sense of belonging. We strongly encourage the creation of a messaging group (such as WhatsApp or a Messenger Group) to allow residents to communicate with each other easily and quickly. Email can also be used as an alternative.

It’s a great way to get to know your neighbours and create a sense of community. You’ll also receive lots of advice about keeping yourself and your property safe and how to avoid scams.

WHAT SUPPORT DO GROUPS GET?
  • We can let you know about other neighbourhood groups in your area and put you in touch (if you want)

  • We can pass on information from your local Neighbourhood Policing team and put you in touch (if you want)

  • You will get introductory information for your members including No Cold Calling stickers

  • You get newsletters with relevant advice / information on keeping yourself and your neighbours safe

  • You have the option to attend meetings with other group organisers and local Police representatives

  • If your group is large enough (more than 10 houses) we can provide you with Southport Homewatch lamp post signs. (This is a visible sign that neighbours care about each other and there is evidence that they can reduce opportunistic crimes.)

ALREADY GOT A WHATSAPP OR FACEBOOK GROUP? - WHY NOT LINK UP WITH US?

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • You tell us how big your group is and what area it covers

  • It’s still your group – you know who the members are, you don’t tell us

  • You run your group in the way you want (we will provide a basic set of guidelines)

HOW DO I SIGN-UP?

Get in touch with us and we will arrange a face to face chat to talk about setting up your scheme and what materials / support we can provide for you.
